7 Quick Resources for Turfgrass: Weeds, Diseases, Soil Temp, Products & Labels

When you’re in the field you don’t always have the time or the means to search for solutions to problems that arise. You can’t sit down at your laptop, perform a Google Search, and then spend 20 minutes looking for what you need.

2. TURF MD (App on iOS or Android)

TURF MD in a mobile app by The American Phytopathological Society. Users can access photo galleries, identification tools, decision support tools, diagnostic keys, and other features of Turf MD. Once the app is installed you can access this tool without internet connection. This easy-to-use app includes high-quality, peer-reviewed information based on reviews by the world’s top experts in turfgrass disease. Keyword search that allows you to instantly find diseases by name or by words associated with the disease description and its symptoms. Finally, a convenient tagging function that lets you mark ‘favorite’ diseases for quick reference.

3. CDMS Pesticide Label & SDS Database+

The CDMS Database+ works as a search engine for pesticide labels and SDS. You can search by product name, common name, and manufacturer.

4. Soil Temperature Map

GreenCast offers an online tool for soil temperature maps. Access 24-hour and 5-day soil temperature averages city and state or zip code. Certain insects, weeds and diseases thrive in certain soil temperatures. Having updated information about your local soil temperature and the pests common to your area can help you prevent and treat for optimal turfgrass quality.

5. National Turf Grass Evaluation Program

NTEP offers sponsored trials that show how various seed varieties performed under various conditions through multiple testing. You can access information by state/region or variety.

6. Nufarm Insider

NufarmInsider by Nufarm offers industry content curated for your job function: lawncare operator, superintendent, or greenhouse/nursery.  It is a comprehensive resource for information about Nufarm products, training webinars and other resources—including articles, podcasts and videos.
